What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little misfortune, but we sometimes see heat pump troubles in Humble during the colder seasons, when they’re necessary to keep you warm. While you know the team at Arrings A/C & Heating will forever be there ASAP when you need us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to ensure a repair is necessary and save yourself some cash if it’s not. We’ve collected this checklist of things to attempt before you give us a call. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is turned “on”. We’ve been to numerous calls only to realize the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off. Look at your thermostat to ensure it’s on, fixed to the proper temperature and isn’t set to cool. Then try changing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re unsure where it is) and check your fuses and circuit breaker. Make sure your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t kicked on, go back to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, confirm that it’s displaying the correct time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s in fact night, it may not switch your heat on because it doesn’t think you’re home. Is an impasse causing your furnace to not work? Examine your air filters to make sure they’re not jamming things up. Do you have any blocked ducts, vents or cool air intakes? Are all supply registers exposed? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve moved through this checklist and you’re still lacking heat, call Arrings A/C & Heating at 281-713-8304 or set up an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the welcoming and cozy place it should be.
