How a Solar Energy System Works. The sun is already giving off huge amounts of energy, so why not put it to use? With the Lennox® SunSource® Energy System we have available at Arrings A/C & Heating in Humble, you can limit your dependence on oil and gas and lower your utility bills. But how does it change from sunlight to energy? The most basic way to explain a solar energy system is that the system uses solar modules, which are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, to gather energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. This electricity powers light, appliances and electrical devices in your home. Grid-tied PV systems Grid-tied PV systems are the most common and least expensive for residential solar systems. The SunSource Energy System we carry is grid-tied, meaning it’s connected to your utility company’s power grid or power stations. Grid-tied allows you to use your solar energy system to power your home. At times when the system isn’t creating electricity, your home will receive power through the utility grid. And, when your system produces an excess amount of electricity, it will be fed back into the grid through a process called net-metering. With net-metering, your meter spins forward if you’re using electricity from the grid and backward when you’re putting your SunSource System’s electricity back into the grid. *Note: Most rebates and incentives that make a solar energy system more affordable are only available when your system is grid-tied. Stand-alone PV systems are an alternative for those in remote areas without utility service, however they’re much more expensive. A stand-alone system is not connected to a utility grid and provide for a home’s entire energy consumption. Ready to go solar? Call Arrings A/C & Heating at 281-713-8304 or schedule a meeting online.
